About the Talk
How we perceive and experience the spaces we inhabit is central to our lived experiences and our understanding of the world around us. When spaces become contested—such as in the conflicts surrounding construction and development projects in Malta—they come to symbolise deeper ideological struggles and competing worldviews. This discussion will examine how the dominant neoliberal ideology, driven by individual aspirations and hyper-consumption, seeks to shape spaces, restructuring social relations in its image to sustain its existence and reproduction. However, its hegemony is never absolute. It continually faces resistance from alternative social, political, and economic visions that challenge its dominance.
